What is foundations this year? & Why is it different
Foundations is a semester run course that takes place in lieu of study hall.
Foundations will meet 3 times in a 6 day cycle, either A or B days during your specials period.
Because of the pandemic, foundations is offered for all students grades 6-8.
Every student was placed in a semester of Foundations of Language Arts Literacy and a semester of Foundations of Math.
Your parents have the option to contact administration to opt you out of one or both at the start of the semester. You will be placed into study hall instead.
Every student will receive personalized instruction thereby targeting specific math skills/ concepts that we will identified as a need to review based on multiple assessment data.
The goal is to target individual math skills / topics to enhance overall comprehension and understanding. We are aiming to help you be more successful in your math classes this year and beyond.
This class is not designed to serve as a punishment and not just another worksheet class.
What will the 3 day sequence look like
DAY 1: We will choose one topic/skill to review and teachers will briefly reteach it.
Complete common activity on the skill and an exit ticket to see what level you are at.
DAY 2: Based on day 1’s exit ticket, placed into 3 groups (groups will change every topic)
Activities will range from: practicing just the skill → word problems & problem solving
DAY 3: Whole group: problem solving with a word problem on the same skill & learning how to respond (use RACE) for an open ended responses
Same 3 groups: Activities will range from: Practicing just the skill → word problems & problem solving → responding to open-ended questions
